gloom, minus the doom

I had a feeling that this weekend would be great on my drive home from work yesterday afternoon. As I pulled on to our street, I noticed how perfect the light of the evening was. Different shades of gray, pine trees along the road still a deep green. Dry streets, even though the afternoon had a very similar feel of the still time after a rainstorm. I love love love and adore gloomy days. Later in the evening Steven and I went to a restaurant near our place that we go to when we can't make a decision about dinner. I ordered the house red, which was delicious and only $4 a glass. I also had a steak rubbed in chimichurri and it was perfect. After another glass of wine, we headed home and enjoyed the rest of the evening.

This morning Steven woke up around 7 and couldn't get back to sleep so he went out in to the living room and made some music. He recently purchased an awesome sythn, which he plugged in to his Mac and recorded a new song. I slept until 10 and came out in time to catch the season 3 premiere of Big Love. I then took the liberty to catch up on all of my favorite blogs, with cooking shows on in the background. Uh...heaven. After endless reading, I ran to the grocery and did a mini shop. I picked up some whole wheat tortellini and some ingredients to make homemade tomato sauce. I grabbed some carrots, celery and tomatoes to make my favorite salad (all chopped up with Italian dressing drizzled over, topped with parmesan). And some other goodies for the weekend. Since I loved the wine I had last nite, I stopped by the liquor store to try and find it. The only size bottle it came in was 1.5 liters, $8.99. Seemed too good to be true. I also picked up a bottle of rosé, which I have been dying to try since my obsession with France became out of hand. I am chilling it and we will have tonite along with the tortellini. I do need to admit something before leaving this post...my crush on Anthony Michael "Tony" Bourdain is expanding. Shhhh, don't tell.

Tomorrow I am looking forward to:

possible coffee at Amante

picking up veggies, fruits and cheese from the sunflower market

organizing our storage room

reading more about a lovely lady living in nyc

Here's to you-

I love and adore gloomy days too, probably because they come few and far between here in CO. BTW - that wine looks delicious.
