A mystical post

I have been reading a lot of blogs lately that capture the essence of summer so well. How it's a rather magical time of year. I have always been a bit in love with spring and fall. But this summer has just been knocking me off my feet. The light, the smells, the endless flowers everywhere, opening every single window we have as soon as I get home from work, wanting light little meals, ice cold water.
Our backyard was sooooo overgrown. It was cool, but a bit overwhelming. Last weekend we spent hours and hours working in the yard and now it is perfect. Every time Jane comes over (our landlord) we learn more and more about the plants in the yard. Turns out the tree right outside our bedroom is a cherry tree, cherries!! And the plants surrounding the cherry tree? Mint of course! When I water the garden after work I pick off little mint leaves and love smelling them (just re-read that and sounds a bit creepy). Jane gave me a sweet little recipe of how to make mint iced tea. It seems like overnight about 6 sunflowers have started growing. Loving those. We cut back tons of the weeping willow's branches and the space surrounding the tree is so clear and lovely now. To say that I am very proud of the yard is an understatement. Tomorrow nite we are having friends over, there will be 7 of us and I am making dinner. We are thinking about putting together our old kitchen table to put in the backyard. It's a long farmer's table and can seat 8 people. I love the idea of an outdoor eating space that is a bit unconventional. I wrote out the menu last nite. I LOVE writing out menus and ideas. I also want to pick up a table cloth and some little candles.
Last nite after dinner we went on a long walk right before it became dark. There was a house on a corner that we both decided at the same time was our dream house. It was a craftsman style and the entire front yard around to the side yard was lined with roses. There was a beautiful lantern hanging from the side porch. The backyard was fenced in and had a table under a tree. Hanging from a branch was a chandelier. Everything about the house and yard was absolutely perfect. It was a dreamy walk :)

Song of the week.
