I have been listening to Kate Bush's new album on repeat. Maybe even beyond repeat if that's possible. It's perfect for right now, about snow, about love. I was really tickled by Big Boi's response to the album. If you want a copy of it, I would totally send one to you, just let me know!
I can't really wrap my mind around the fact that it gets cold in Texas (after heat upon heat wave). The other evening we turned on the heat. I look forward to that first heat-the smell, the encompassing.
It's so strange, living downtown, and having the sweetest, cutest neighborhood just two blocks up a hill. It transforms. Once again I have promised myself to take long walks this winter. Take it in, get ideas, pick up branches, inspect exteriors of houses, the sky. I really, really should this year. This year.
Last nite was the coziest of all. Right after work we got in bed and watched Mad Men & ate french bread with goat cheese and salami, lots of red wine. I can't wait to re-create this again, soon. In bed right after work.
Another strange thing. Everyone that we encounter in Austin is soooo super nice. And we love it. But the people that live in our apartment building are standoffish, not very nice. We barely see people here and when we do, we are usually totally ignored. It kinda hurts my feelings. It's ok to admit that. I tell myself.
We picked up a few items at the grocery for dinners this week. Pasta, with a roasted vegetable sauce (I added tons of crushed garlic, topped it with ricotta and a bit of olive oil). Herb & garlic chicken, with a winter salad. Potato leek soup with barbecue chicken sandwiches. We are really loving super simple lately. And doing it all together.
I had a mushroom ragu the other day, it's still on my mind. I think I will make it at Christmas. Planning that menu with my dad-one of my all time favorite things.
This is a good song for the winter. It reminds me of a time, but I can't think of the dates, the actual time. I just heard it in the movie Shop Girl and it took me back.
