Cloudy

For a few years I have had this incredible image in my memory that I think of every once in a while. I was driving along back roads in Minnesota right before a hailstorm. The sky was filled with cloud upon cloud upon cloud. I had never seen anything like it. I even had the audacity to write a poem about that particular sky, the line going something like ‘cotton balls crowding’ ;)

Today at work I came across some images in an email. This is what I saw:

Turns out the clouds I saw years ago are mammatus clouds. They usually appear before a big storm. It’s always so crazy to me, coming across something that I have wondered about for so long and now I have a definition, a reason, an explanation. I can now define this image that has been in my memory for so long. Love it.
