Kauai journal, 2nd entry

Saturday, June 4, 2011

On Friday morning we spent most of the day inside, it was pouring on and off for hours. We received a recorded call that there was a flash flood warning. I read for hours, moving from a kitchen chair, to a chair in the living room, to a chair outside on the lanai. I mostly read An Italian Affair. Then the first set of poems from Noon. Later in the afternoon we went into Hanalei to buy more fruit and avocados for the salad I want to make for everyone. When we got home I curled my hair while drinking a glass of cold white wine. We drove about a half an hour to a luau, which was on a gorgeous piece of land full of gardens. The food and dancing were great.

This morning we woke up early, to go sailing. The trip was canceled due to the weather, so we finished the second season of Twin Peaks. All morning we have been out on the lanai, covered in blankets, reading, holding hands, watching the rain.

(Saturday continued)

After taking a nap, we spent the early evening out on the lanai. Dani and I talked a lot & it was so lovely. We had a drink before dinner and then drove in to Hanalei. We walked around in the rain, looking at menus outside of restaurants, decided on Kalypso. Had fruity frozen drinks and a grilled chicken salad. After dinner we went to Tahini Nui to hear live music and have another drink. There was a small dance floor packed with people doing crazy dance moves. We came home and all sat outside, watching the stars. There were so many, so close together.
